Ideas for storytelling

For the story telling project I wanted to take inspiration from a dream I had a few years ago and make an interactive story about that. 

The main characters of the story are my Grandparents so I had a look at some examples of how other people portray Grandparents in a simple cartoon-like way.

I thought this graphic was very cute, however I didn't want to copy it in anyway. So I thought about how I could do something similar.

I also found this cute drawing however I think it's a bit too detailed for the style I would like to go for and also when I tried drawing something like this myself it looked a bit un-proportional.

Couldn't find the original artist- it was posted on Pinterest.

I also thought about portraying them as animals, since that would add to the surrealness of the story and I also don't have to worry too much about portraying them correctly and therefore it could just be animal Grandparents not specifically my Grandparents.
