Character animation
My Character Animation so far.
I wondered how I needed to rig the character so after a search I found this forum post How to create a "slime" rig? - Support / Animation and Rigging - Blender Artists Community and within that someone responded with this video. CGC Classic: Rigging and Animating a Bouncing Ball (Blender 2.6) - YouTube
Below are the references and tutorials I looked at before making the animation.
When showing my character design to one of the people in the class they commented it looked like a slime from Genshin Impact because of that I thought I could look at the animation of the slime as another reference of how my character could move.
I found this video showcasing the animations of a slime: Enemy Archive - Large Hydro Slime | Genshin Impact - YouTube
I also found this video of a different slime character: Slime animation | Blender 3D - YouTube
Also when I was looking into how to make the character blink I tried to give it eyelids but it didn't look right then I realised that I just needed to squish the eyes to make them look closed. In hindsight, I should have looked at videos like those above because I would have realised that sooner.
This tutorial was really helpful even though I had to do a few things a bit differently due to the tutorial being for an older version of Blender and also because I had to parent all the parts of the character to the rig. The effect created by this rig set-up is just what I was looking for to help animate my character.
I made 3 animations for my character so far: a simple jump (inspired by the bouncing ball tutorial and the slime videos) a sort of rock from side to side and a stationary bounce (maybe for an idle animation). I also wanted to do a roll animation but for some reason, Blender wouldn't let me add any more keyframes even though I was doing the same thing I did for the previous animations.
