Premiere Pro: Cup of Tea
Today I edited the video I filmed yesterday for the "Cup of Tea" project. The task for this project was to create a 90 second video showing how to make a cup of tea (Without spoken words).
The first thing I did was make a storyboard:
To film the video I used a step ladder, in place of a tripod, to get a good angle of the kettle. I also used my phone to film, using the 4k setting. It was a bit challenging to film this on my own and I only had one chance to film it since I only had one tea bag (Since I don't drink tea and didn't want waste more than one cups worth) . I did make some small mistakes but I think it was a good experience filming this.
After transfering my footage to my drive, I could then start editing. The first thing I did was watch through the footage and used markers to mark important parts, like parts I might want to cut out. I then watched through again and cut out parts, checking to make sure it still flowed properly. The parts I cut out included parts where not much happened and parts where I moved the camera slightly.
Once I had made the cuts I wanted I worked on adding a zoom, since that was part of my plan. I did this by using the keyframes and editing the scale. Other things I added were a clock wipe effect (to show time passing when the kettle was boiling), text and another clip (of me drinking the tea) at the end. I also added sound transitions to make the sound transition better at the cuts.
One part which I found fun was editing the video so that it looks like the cup (Which the tea is made in) appears on it's own, I did this by cutting out the part where I placed it. I also was quite happy with the close up of the tea, though it was a bit shaky it was nice seeing the steam and the colours of the tea. I also like how I zoomed in to focus on the cup. Some problems with the video though is that it is a little bit boring and there are some small errors (from the original video) which I couldn't remove, like spilling some water on the counter.
Overall I think my piece could be better, but I think it was good practice and considering the challenges I had (With space, time, current skills ect.) I think it was a good attempt. I hope to improve on these types of skills in the near future.
