Style ideas + initial character sketches.
Quite a lot of treasure games have a pirate sort of theme as seen below:

This could be an interesting theme to explore if I choose to have my game focus on collecting treasures like in my initial ideas. There are also more nature-themed treasure concepts like in these images:

I used an editing software to put together my favourite designs from the ones in this collection (So that I could see them all in one place):
I really think these designs are beautiful, especially the small details like the little creatures as well as objects like books and lanterns. The colours are also very vibrant but not over the top and they all work really well together. I wish I could draw as well as this. I also really like the sleeping dragon? design in the image on the right.
I also found this ai generated dragon lair piece which looks quite interesting. Overall I think I want my game to have a magical element to it but I also want to include elements of nature because I think that will be important.
I could also take some inspiration from the lush caves in Minecraft, the style is quite simple but the glow berries and particles from flowers along with the random generation of Minecraft can create something unique and somewhat magical. These elements of the caves make them seem less scary, however, often monsters can still spawn.

Since I am thinking about making the game have an overall nature sort of theme I thought maybe the characters could also be inspired by nature almost as if they are part of the world.
I found these really cute element-inspired characters, however, I think I want my characters to be a bit more humanoid and also simple enough to be able to model them in Blender.
I also found this mushroom character art which is very cute. I would like the characters to look quite cute but also a bit funny. I also like the shapes of these characters.

Another thing I used for inspiration was some AI generated images from DALL-E of a character inspired by nature. Although the use of AI for art is somewhat controversial, I think it can be useful for a starting point for ideas or for moodboards to figure out how you want something to look.
A slight inspiration I found for the monster was @gemsart.v on Instagram who has some art posts of cats being crazy. I think these are very funny yet cute and I would like to emulate this in my monster since it is supposed to be scary but I also want it to have a funny/cute side to it too.
After finding inspiration I did some sketches:
