Premiere Pro: Jumping Video

In this lesson we started off by watching the video called 'Neighbours' which uses lots of interesting techniques since it is essentailly an animation but with people.

After watching we had a go at making something similar with a video of a person jumping. We first went through the clip and cut out all the frames where the person was jumping and added them to a sequence. The 'i' 'o' and ',' shortcuts were helpful for marking the in and out points and adding the selections to the timeline. I also used markers to mark the rough position of the jumps when I first watched through the original clip.

I then added opacity masks to all the cuts so that I could add a green matte underneath and then key out the green. When I tried keying out the original background it wasn't very smooth. To speed up the masking, I copy and pasted the masks I had already made and edited them. It was also helpful to use Ctrl to remove points and Alt to curve points. I also added some crop masks for areas that the opacity mask could not reach.

I also removed 2 of the jump frames so that the video flowed better. Once keyed out I could add a background. This lesson was interesting because we got to try out this technique which could potentially be used in future projects. It was also interesting because it shows that by cutting up the video in this way you can make it look like an animation.
