Start of 2nd Year/Level 5

To start off the 2nd year of the course we were introduced to the 2 projects for the 1st semester which included: making a prototype for an app and working as a team to create a piece of digital media.

We explored what UI and UX are and how they differ. User experience (UX) is how a user interacts with something, including its usefulness and ease of use. It involves the elements needed for the user to accomplish what they intend to do. It is very subjective since users might want to accomplish different things with the experience. The user interface (UI) is the space where humans and machines interact. For UI you have to think about layout and how easy and efficient it will be for the user. A clear and simple UI is preferable since too many elements can make a UI confusing, overwhelming or harder to use.

We also looked at some examples of good and bad UI/UX and we were tasked with thinking about what apps inspire us and what sort of app we will create.

For teamwork practices, we thought about what is essential when working in a team including communication. We also had an exercise where the whole class had to work together to make a short game level. We then had to decide on our groups of 3, and once decided we discussed what we might want to make. We agreed on making a 2d game and made a group chat where we could share ideas like links to pieces of media that interest us.
