Behind the frame- Research

I often enjoy watching videos of people playing games, it allows me to see different techniques used in games.

I watched a video (from RCE) about a game called "Behind the frame" which involves a painter and the player has to complete puzzles to unlock the different colours for the painting. It also has a nice story element but I will not spoil it.

One scene I really liked appearance-wise was this one:

I think this scene is pretty and matches very thematically with the game since it has a painting-like style and since this scene was portrayed as a memory it also ties into that. The use of purple also links to the colour of paint found in this scene and this scene is also portrayed in one of the paintings.

The paintings that are painted in the game are more abstract/modern style which contrasts with this style but this choice makes sense for the gameplay and also gives an insight into how different artists may view a scene.

In this scene, you are able to look around in a 3d space using the mouse to find the next part of the story. It looks to me like the assets are mainly 2d but in the 3d space and all of these elements like the sky, the trees, the flowers and some butterflies are animated slightly which portrays a slight breeze in the scene and gives life to it. This scene is very tranquil and If I choose to make a 360/VR environment I would like to make somewhere relaxing like this because I think that would create a nice experience for the user and might help them destress.

I also saw a video about someone creating a painting appearance in blender using geometry nodes, however, I haven't really used geometry nodes before so I think that would be a bit too advanced for me. Turning 3D Models into Masterpieces: A Blender Tutorial - YouTube I could maybe look into something like this in the future when I improve my blender skills even more.
