I looked at some time-lapses of flowers (in particular roses) growing to get a realistic reference for the animation I will make. 

Using the second video I made a storyboard using screenshots to give myself an overview of the changes. 

I also looked at some images of flowers which I have taken.

Although it was somewhat challenging to create natural shapes using a computer (Which is often not very natural) Also I was not sculpting this so I had to use nodes (with modifiers) to create the shapes and it was sometimes hard to create the folds for example since that would somewhat glitch the shape.
