I watched this video for a basic idea of how rigging works in Blender. I didn't want to watch a video rigging a butterfly since I sort of wanted to challenge myself to work that out myself and also I didn't want to copy a video. 

This was a good base for understanding how rigging worked but I did have to do some more Google searches when I tried rigging on my own.
