Finishing the Project

3/5/23 (I know this is almost a week before the deadline but I wanted to be able to focus on the independent project so tried to get this project finished a few days earlier)

I added the start and end pages that I drew as images and also changed the buttons on these pages to matching text.

For the last page, I had a button that went back to the start. I had to make sure these buttons were labelled correctly. I also had to change these images to traced bitmaps but it wasn’t very clean so I had to manually smooth some parts where it was very jagged.

I also edited the buttons so they changed in the hover and down parts.

I then added another animation to the last scene so a wave comes along and washes the car/boat off the scene. This was because in the dream the car/boat had gone leaving the Grandma cat behind. But that would be a bit hard to portray so I had a wave move it instead. This also in some way gives the story an alternate ending.

Finally, I started adding in sounds. I got all the sounds from BBC sound effects and started with the elephant spraying water. This sound was a bit too long and the start of it didn’t really match so I edited it in Audition. I added this sound to the animation so that it would play when the water is sprayed, however, a downside to this is if the button (controlling the animation) is hovered over it will continue to play the whole sound even if the user stops hovering. So if it is hovered accidentally the sound plays. I’m not sure how I would fix that due to the format of the button hovering controlling the animation and It would be a bit too late to change this.

I then added some sounds through the script, making sure the sounds had link names. I had a few problems with this where I had accidentally put a stop somewhere and I had forgotten that the stop scripts need to be before the play scripts or else the sound will not play.

For the scene where the car turns into a boat, I added both the car and boat sounds into the animation. This didn’t turn out perfectly since I couldn’t really find the perfect sounds (since perfect doesn’t really exist), but it does a good job of aiding the concept of the car entering the water. The boat and wave sounds had a bit of a delay before them which were good in this car/boat scene but I wasn’t sure about them in the other scenes. I ended up leaving the delay since it sort of makes the wave sounds a bit more calming due to the silence. Overall I am happy that I took the time to add sounds.

The last thing I did was use FileZilla to make the html page. I had a problem where it just showed a grey page and this was fixed by adding the sounds and images to the html files. I also added the pre-loader so you can tell the page is loading and made the page responsive in the publish settings. In conclusion, I am happy with how this project turned out, I know there are some things like better images, a better theme and more animations which could have improved it more however that would have probably required more time and these can be things I can think about doing in future projects.
